That morning, so long ago, Joseph tried to make sense of all that had happened. He was to care for and protect the Son of God and raise him into early manhood. He remembered the moment the assignment came. The dream was so vivid, so real. The messenger so powerful, so gentle, and the message so clear.

 

“Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. She will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

He was just a nobody carpenter from a backwater town. But God had entrusted him with an assignment like no other in all of history. The questions rolled in . . . How? What now? Money? Provisions? Even as the fearful impossibilities rose in his mind, a strange calmness and assurance diffused them. And, he knew. God will provide.

God did provide and guide, each step of the way. Joseph did his job. So will you.
