Heartland
July 2026

The Heartland images are unexpected products of a trip from South Dakota to Mobile, helping a friend ferry his recreational vehicle home. We left Rapid City on a Wednesday evening and arrived in Mobile on Saturday afternoon—a long, quick trip. Many of these images were captured through the passenger window at 70 mph as we followed the ripening corn south. I chose the watercolor application to best tell this particular story. I hope you enjoy these glimpses of the Heartland.

The route south through Omaha, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Nashville runs through the heart of American corn country. The world is fed by these farms and the grit of those who tend them. The following images depict one of our nation's great treasures.
