The Position - The Essential Reality . . . God in You

". . . And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. . ."  Colossians 1:27

You will need to hang out on this page a while. Just as the Moment is essential to the initiation of a relationship with God, grasping the reality of God in you is essential in the successful conduct of that relationship.

"Essential" means you can’t do it without this reality. Like Jesus told his men, “apart from me, you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

You learned that there is an operational position specific to your relationship with God. You also learned of certain characteristics and responsibilities pertaining to your effective performance in that position.

One question looms large . . . How I do that? The essential reality of “God in you” is the answer.

The moment you believed, God took up residence in the place in you He created specifically for Himself . . . your heart. This is not about the physical pump in your chest. This is a concept dealing with the centeredness of your metaphysical self.

Poets and songwriters speak of the heart . . . the center of a person's thoughts and emotions, especially love, compassion, or loyalty. The Bible refers to the heart as the center of hidden emotional-intellectual-moral activity. "Man looks at the outward appearance," says Samuel, "but the lord looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7) The king's heart is unsearchable to humankind, (Proverbs 25:3) but the Lord searches all hearts to reward all according to their conduct. (Jeremiah 17:10) In the time of judgment God will expose the hidden counsels of the heart. (1 Corinthians 4:5).

Maybe it is easiest just to think of your heart as the Captain's chair in the control center of your life . . . the place where your spirit, your mind, and your will intersect. No person or thing other than God is allowed in that chair

Consider the possibilities for effective living as the Holy Spirit, in constant communication through your spirit, forms your thought and shapes your will bringing each into perfect alignment with His purpose and will resulting in decisions, expressions, and actions that effect His way in each arena of your life.

"God in you" answers the question, "How."

Now you need to spend some time cementing this essential reality into your operational thought. Below are sixteen linked references. Each affirms the reality of God in you and identifies a benefit available to you. As you read each one in turn, understand that you are exposing yourself to an important spiritual dynamic . . . God's living Word in the context of God's living Spirit ushering its meaning and power into your mind. Soak on each and learn the promised benefits of God in you. Speak it aloud. Write it. Learn it. Experience it.
