The Gulf Lumber Company saw mill, now Canfor, on Conception Street in Mobile, Alabama, has been in constant operation, except for upgrade and maintenance shutdowns, since 1952. In September 2024, the mill was closed in favor of Canfor's new high-capacity mill built north of the city.

For three generations, the white billows of steam exhaust from the drying kiln was a regular sight to traffic entering the downtown area. The image above was shot in 2022 when the mill was fully operational. All other shots were collected in October 2024, just after the shutdown and before the mill's dismantling.
